At the request of the former owner of this treasured lakefront site, Checkwitch Poiron Architects developed a schematic design that would make the project environmentally sustainable and financially feasible. The design aims at restoring the site as it had been damaged by previous development and fire. Setting the resort into the hillside makes use of the large excavation where the former lodge once sat before it burned down. It also minimizes the visual impact of the building and makes the roof a large greenspace accessible to the public. Working with a team of consultants, the scheme also incorporated water treatment facilities and an affordable housing component.
