Herbal Land Resort

Courtenay, BC
52.6 acres

Working with our client, CPA created a masterplan for a parcel of land that was previously used as a lumber mill and re-conceived as herbal-themed resort and farm. The resort creates a variety of experiences that immerse visitors in herbs such as lavender, sage, mint, and others in an isolated and healing way. Our scope included the master plan, design of individual structures, and associated preliminary budgeting. Special consideration of the preservation of specific mature trees, ponds, streams, and riparian areas were carefully considered and emphasized in the project concept. Proposed building designs focussed on modern interpretations of traditional agricultural buildings employing minimalist techniques and the use of natural materials. Our work encompassed the coordination of site servicing, traffic impact study, bio-inventory, forest resource inventory assessment, sustainability, and archaeological reporting.
